Process Engineer & Environmental Coordinator Jul 2014 toDec2015
Chetwynd Mechanical Pulp Mill, Paper Excellence Group, Chetwynd, BC, Canada
- Monitored day to day unit production, key processing indicators, and process unit performance.
- Provided continuous supports to operations team to achieve process optimization.
- Ensured air and water (ground and potable) quality to meet BC Ministry of Environment Permit limits.
- Analysed process data, and trend analysis to increase productivity.
Project: Heavy Duty Presses (HDP) design, installation, and commissioning
- Performed to find out the loss of pulp fiber through the process.
- Worked on mass balance of each individual Twin wire Press, and Heavy-Duty Press
- Calculated total dryer steam savings, and product tonnage increased.
- Estimated the amount of process water savings, and total operational cost savings/yr. for our mill.
- performed hazop studies several times to address process and operational safety, & environmental risks
Project Achievements:
- Developed a novel design of HDP which increase pulp consistency 2% (from 48-50%) in HDP discharge which save 53 MT process water/day,94 MT Steam/day, and shipping cost CAD 4,211/day (due to less water in product)
- Total savings for Chetwynd Mechanical Pulp Mill about 1.5 $MM/yr.
Research Associate Aug2011-Aug2012
Chemical and Biological Engineering, University of Saskatchewan
Performed research on the growth kinetics of single crystals from aqueous solutions, reasons and remedies of potash caking formation.
Process Engineer Nov 2004 to Oct 2010 Caustic, Chlorine, and Acid Plant Karnaphuli Paper Mills Limited, Bangladesh
- Monitored day-to-day process, safety, production, recovery, and plant operations.
- Supervised to achieve operational efficiency of plant for optimum production.
- Worked with operation and maintenance personnel to improve and optimize the process.
- Diagnosed plant issues and performed root cause analysis.
Project: Coolers and packed carbon bed design, installation, and commissioning
- Performed analysis to find out the loss of Mercury and heat through the process.
- Mass and energy balance of each individual cells and decomposer
- Calculated total heat duty, and surface area required for the heat exchanger.
- Estimated the amount of mercury recovered from cooling process and carbon bed.
Project Achievements:
- Developed a design of cooler which get down the Hydrogen gas temperature from 100°C to 20°C.
- Saved 10% operational cost by reducing mercury losses from 1.90 to 1.05 gm Hg/ton of chlorine, and heat losses by 5%
