Shannon O'Neill

I'm originally from London, but I have recently relocated to Vancouver. I have worked as a freelance communications consultant for the past 6 months while traveling, but now I would like to settle into an exciting new role in Canada. My background is primarily in political communications and media, but I have also worked in the construction, tech, B2B, fitness and dating industries too.

I am a strong writer and communicator, and I developed these skills in my recent role as an External Affairs Officer at the Federation of Master Builders (FMB). Within this role, I regularly prepared written materials to promote the organization, targeting both the media and those at a political level. I organized a drop-in event in the House of Commons, to discuss solutions to the rise in energy costs across the UK and Northern Ireland.

During my time at the FMB, I also researched and prepared quarterly reports, such as the State of Trade Survey and I wrote a press release and blog to promote the findings in the report with a wider audience. I also prepared briefs for the CEO when he spoke at events in Parliament and across the UK, and I regularly worked closely with journalists to provide press releases and quotes on behalf of the organization. I would also prepare briefs for the CEO when he spoke on the TV and radio.

Alongside these tasks, I worked closely with the wider communications team to develop both short and long-term marketing and communication strategies to better promote the organization.

In my previous role, I worked as a Policy and Casework Researcher in the House of Commons and I wrote press releases for local news publications and liaised with national news publications to provide quotes on behalf of a Member of Parliament.

I have also been working as a Freelance Communications Consultant since July 2023 predominately for one client, with a focus on a range of different projects, such as developing new and engaging content to showcase their work, including website articles, social media updates, case studies, and newsletter articles. Overall, I have helped drive and support the delivery of internal communications strategies.

I graduated in 2021 with an MA in Journalism, and I graduated in 2018 with a BA with Honors in Politics and International Relations.
