I am Jamie Xu, a Toronto-based illustrator originally from China. My work drives inspiration from my fantasy world of sunshine, flowers, and animals. I bond closely with my illustrations and paintings by creating a fairytale-like world with my imagination that speaks to my desire from childhood. I approach my work from a naive and innocent point of view, often purifying adult concepts to focus on enjoyment.
My design starts with sketching my imagination and experimenting with how different textures and mediums portray my ideas. Throughout the process, I constantly shifted my design choices, such as medium, colour, or texture, to match my desired imagery. I enjoy mixed media of both traditional and digital mediums. The emotions behind mediums are complex, and I chose the medium that best fits my message and intention.
My illustration fulfills my inner child, and I hope you do, too.
