I worked as the Years 4, 5 and 6 Teaching Assistant at BIC, Sa Porrassa, from January 2018 until July 2019. I supported SEN and EAL children in Maths and English throughout this time, as well as teaching Maths daily to a small group of Y4 SEN children and holding weekly individual Maths sessions with children with Dyscalculia. I successfully researched and devised methods to aid their learning using games, flash cards and manipulables which I made and bought myself.
I privately tutor 4 children in Maths and English on an individual basis after school.
I took the responsibility of the Y5 teacher role for 5 weeks whilst the teacher was on sick leave, as well as covering and planning most Spanish and French lessons throughout the Primary Department for almost a term due to long-term teacher absences, as I speak both languages.
I am a very artistic person and considerably enjoy that part of the job too. I take great pleasure in designing and creating displays. I have included an example of my work.
I assisted on many school trips, including a Y5 trip to Barcelona, which was a resounding success, as well as brilliant fun.
I am half-way through my PGCEi course, but I had to defer due to personal reasons. I am planning to re-start my studies soon. I completed my Teaching Assistant Placement before my role at Sa Porrassa and as I had not previously worked in a school, I decided, along with my mentor, to take a longer route to gain the necessary experience in a school environment and instead of the designated 10 weeks, I completed 20 weeks of Teaching Practice for my placement.
I am a friendly, hard-working, organised, and confident individual, who loves children and cares very much for their well-being, development, and improvement in all fields. I found my job challenging, but hugely rewarding, gratifying and enjoyable.
I was made redundant at the end of the school year 2018-2019 due to the new management’s decision to no longer employ Teaching Assistants in the Primary Department. I then homeschooled my son and another student for Years 5 and 6 during lockdown and the school year 2020-2021. It was a demanding experience, but immensely rewarding.
I very much enjoyed researching the curriculum and adapting my planning and teaching to it. Both students made significant progress during the school year, especially in maths.
I have lived on the island for most of my life and have a great deal of experience in many lines of work.
