I have completed a Kickstart apprenticeship at Devon County Council where I was a Technology Researcher in the Reaching for Independence team. This was my first work experience since graduating from the University of the West of England, Bristol with a 2.2 in Forensic Science and where I was also awarded Most Meritorious Forensic Science Student 2021 by the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences. I really enjoyed my apprenticeship which gave me the opportunity to experience both working in an office environment with my colleagues and independently from home on my own assignments.
I gained experience of working in a team, collaborating to provide different solutions to address clients’ specific needs. During my apprenticeship I completed various trainings such as basics of health and safety, fire safety, first aid, safeguarding of vulnerable adults and essentials of equality, inclusion and diversity. It was great to gain insight to a very different type of work than I experienced through my degree course in which I chose to specialise in the final year in analytical science as applied to forensic analysis, human pharmacology and toxicology and environmental forensics.
I gained laboratory experience from both my degree and during A Level and BTEC courses including general safety and chemical handling and analytical and separation techniques such as LCMS, GCMS and UV/Vis spectroscopy. I am a willing worker and would welcome being given the opportunity to demonstrate the value that I can bring to a team.
