About
I am a hardworking and motivated BA(Hons) Fine Art graduate seeking some hands-on, practical work before starting a production design master's degree in 2027. Working backstage in local Northamptonshire theatres as a set designer and prop assistant, making and designing props and dressing sets, has allowed me to develop my communication skills as part of a wider team and use my initiative to problem-solve and organise tasks. My time as an installation assistant involved transporting valuable artworks with care and precision and implementing health and safety measures into a gallery space.
I am now looking to expand on these skills and gain more knowledge and experiences that I can then bring with me into my course next September.
Experience
Installation Assistant at Northampton Museum and Art Gallery (2026 – 2026)
I collaborated with Artist Nicholas Moreton to install his exhibition 'Lifelines'. I helped to facilitate the transportation and installation of his large-scale, stone sculpture artworks and co-ordinated the tidiness and safety within a gallery space.
- Transporting heavy materials and using equipment such as pallet trucks and a gantry.
- Operating within a tight deadline and remaining calm under pressure.
- Following instruction and using initiative
- Working as part of a team, maintaining communication within different departments
- Paying close attention to detail and ensuring the space was presentable and well organised
Assistant to the Props and Furniture Supervisor at Royal and Derngate Theatre (2025 – 2025)
I supported the Props and Furniture Supervisor during the production of 'Mog's Christmas', experiencing multiple areas within the art department such as the construction workshop, the paint studio and the property storage unit. During my time here, I helped with the transportation of props from storage to the theatre as well as painting and creating props.
- Sourcing props, transporting them from place to place.
- Working as part of a team, communicating between departments.
- Versatile with jobs that need to be done, having the ability to prioritise.
- Ensuring there was enough back-ups in case of an emergency.
Assistant to the Art Director at White Cobra Theatre Company (2024 – 2024)
I partnered with the Art Director during the production of 'James and the Giant Peach', assisting with the creating and painting of props as well as attending rehearsals to ensure the performance will run smoothly and preparing in case of an emergency.
- Problem solving in evolving circumstances, adapting the touring show to suit conditions and managing budget costs.
- Catering appropriately towards a family-friendly audience.
- Studying the script and planning the props that will be needed to share the story.
- Creating and painting props, using them during rehearsals to confirm that they are efficient.
Assistant to the Art Director at The Playhouse Theatre (2024 – 2024)
I worked alongside the Art Director and the Stage Director on the production of 'Butterflies are Free'. I assisted with the transportation of props and furniture, the decorating and dressing of the set and the overall health and safety of the theatre.
- Ensuring safety on stage, such as maintaining tidiness, using fire retardant spray in flammable objects and covering up sharp corners that may cause injury.
- Creatively adapting the set design and props to suit the productions storytelling needs within a set budget.
- Gaining confidence with manual tasks such as transporting props and furniture from storage to the stage.
