Hi my name is Amy. I am 19 years old and live in Derbyshire.
I have always had a love and passion for all animals every since I was small, visiting countless zoos and farms and caring for family pets.
I took my love for animals further when I left school and joined Broomfield College in which I completed my ‘Level 3 Advanced Techinal Dipolma in Animal Management’.
I hope to further my skills in the field of animal care and work doing what I love best
I did a week’s work experience in a Dog and Cat Rescue / Kennel during my college course.
My duties consisted of, working from a rota to adhere to each dogs needs, taking them on a walk around the field or moving them across into the outdoor kennels.
During my time here I really learnt how to use my initiative to ensure everything I did was done in a safe and respectful manner with the health and welfare of the animals being priority. For example, when moving the dogs into the outdoor kennels I made sure I was careful with where I placed each dog, as placing two reactive dogs in kennels next to each other could cause stress and anxiety to the animal.
I also worked happily as part of a team where we fed the dogs and catered to different food requirements. I also got the opportunity to over look the administration of medication to the dogs that needed it.
LEVEL 3 ADVANCED TECHINAL DIPLOMA IN ANIMAL MANAGEMENT, BROOMFIELD COLLEGE
I studied a 2 year course at Broomfield College. During my course I was given the opportunity to have a hands on experience with a wide variety of animals. These animals consisted of rabbits, guinea pigs, exotics and some farm animals as just a few examples. I absolutely loved working alongside such a variety of species and learning how all of their husbandry needs, diet and lifestyle differ so greatly. I also did a lot of coursework alongside this and gained a great knowledge on different sectors within animal management.
At the end of my 2 year course I had an official exam along with producing a few essays, overall I was awarded a merit – merit – distinction (M-M-D).
