I’m a 29-year-old student at Brighton University, currently in my final year studying English and Linguistics, with plans to begin a Master’s in Psychiatry at the same university this September. I’m originally from Newquay in Cornwall, a coastal town known for its tourism and surf culture. While studying at college, I worked in a variety of customer-facing roles, including festivals, bar work, and front-of-house positions.
I also have experience working in hotels, both at reception and behind the bar, and have spent time living in Lagos, Portugal. There, I balanced late-night bar shifts with early morning reception work in hostels. Living in Portugal enabled me to become fluent in Portuguese, my second language, which I also studied at A-level. Growing up between Cornwall and Portugal has given me a broad cultural perspective.
I’m now looking for a role that fits alongside my studies, allowing me to manage academic deadlines while earning additional income. Since starting university, I’ve worked less than in previous years and am keen to take on a new challenge. I’m attentive, quick to learn, confident in dealing with people both in person and over the phone, and IT-literate, recently moved back from Wimbledon to Brighton to complete the course.
My previous roles include work in bars, front-of-house, reception, Airbnb cleaning, festival staffing, nightclub environments, and care work for the elderly. Employers have included The Tavern (Lagos, Portugal), Fistral Beach Bar and Hotel, Central Hostel (Lagos), Inside Out Bar, Raffaello (Brighton), Lunar Cleaning, and face-to-face interpreting for Atlantic View in Portugal. Can provide two references.
I also hold BETEC Level 3 A-levels and GCSEs in Portuguese, English, Travel and Tourism, and Health and Social Care (single and double awards), alongside my four years of university study in English and Linguistics.
