General Surgery Trainee - Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) - Karachi, Pakistan

Four-year structured General Surgery training program, currently Year 4 / final year. Completed the core surgical rotations during the first two years of training, including General Surgery (15 months), Orthopaedic Surgery (3 months), Urology (2 months), Neurosurgery (2 months), and Plastic Surgery (2 months); passed the Intermediate Module Examination (IMM) in General Surgery on completion, and continued General Surgery training, which will be completed in December 2026.

Initiate, maintain and review the clinical care of General Surgery patients under the supervision of Consultant Surgeons, in line with unit protocols and organisational goals.
Participate in a twice-weekly emergency on-call roster within an acute surgical unit, managing gastrointestinal perforation, abdominal trauma, penetrating injuries, strangulated hernia and acute appendicitis, including out-of-hours and weekend cover.
Assist in elective theatre sessions twice weekly — thyroidectomy, breast surgery, stoma reversal, hernia repair, laparoscopic appendicectomy and cholecystectomy — adhering to WHO surgical safety checklist and informed consent processes.
Supervise day-to-day activities and provide structured bedside teaching to junior doctors, interns and medical students, ensuring appropriate standards of care and their readiness to fulfil clinical duties.
Maintain accurate, signed, dated and legible entries in patient medical records for every clinical attendance, and ensure discharge summaries and correspondence are completed with minimum delay prior to leaving the unit.
Contribute to consultant-led ward rounds, case discussions, clinical presentations and Quality Improvement Programs, including audit of CT imaging guideline adherence in neurosurgical trauma patients.
