About
Energy systems specialist with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and deep expertise in whole-system energy modelling, hydrogen pathways analysis, and techno-economic assessment of low-carbon technologies. Experienced in building national-scale multi-scenario models using OSeMOSYS, processing large datasets using Python and Advanced Excel, and translating complex system-level insights into clear, decision-ready recommendations for government, industry, and policy stakeholders. Currently developing a UK electricity flexibility model using real NGESO and Elexon data, alongside multi-scenario whole-system models analysing hydrogen, gas, and electricity transition pathways to 2050.
Particularly interested in how whole-system modelling and data-driven analysis can inform Net Zero policy and investment decisions at national and international scale.
Experience
Research Fellow – Energy Systems - Aston University - UK
(2025-10)
- Developing a UK electricity flexibility model using real-world NGESO and Elexon datasets, analysing half-hourly demand patterns, peak and off-peak dynamics, and demand-side optimisation opportunities
- Building multi-scenario energy system models (OSeMOSYS) evaluating renewable generation, storage flexibility, and hydrogen pathways for national-scale policy applications
- Processing and structuring large time-series datasets using Python (Pandas, NumPy) and Advanced Excel to generate actionable market insights for commercial and policy stakeholders
- Conducting scenario-based sensitivity analysis across 25-year energy transition projections, translating outputs into decision-ready policy recommendations for government and industry
- Communicating complex analytical findings to non-technical stakeholders including policymakers, industry partners, and government funders through structured reports and presentations
Assistant Professor – Renewable Energy Engineering - Al Al-Bayt University
(2022-07 - 2025-09)
- Led and delivered two internationally funded research projects (QRDIC and KFUPM grants) involving energy system modelling, techno-economic analysis, and optimisation across a 6-country research network
- Produced structured analytical reports and policy briefs translating complex modelling outputs into clear recommendations for government funders and non-technical stakeholders
- Supervised 20+ student projects in renewable energy system design, hybrid energy modelling, and data-driven performance analysis, consistently delivering on time against structured milestones
- Managed cross-functional research teams and international partnerships, coordinating technical outputs, reporting timelines, and stakeholder communications across multiple concurrent workstreams
Graduate Teaching & Research Assistant - University of Sheffield - UK
(2018-10 - 2022-02)
- Designed and optimised a novel hybrid CSP-Stirling engine and wind turbine system for off-grid microgrids, resulting in 4 peer-reviewed publications in leading energy journals
- Conducted extensive techno-economic modelling and sensitivity analysis on hybrid renewable energy systems using MATLAB/Simulink and Python across multiple performance scenarios
- Delivered undergraduate teaching in data analysis, thermodynamics, and engineering systems to groups of 30+ students, consistently receiving positive feedback
- Presented research findings at the International Conference on Applied Energy (Thailand), developing skills in communicating complex technical analysis to international expert audiences
