I have over 30 years work experience, including working in office based roles as a receptionist/administrator. I have spent 15 years working in schools, initially as a teaching assistant and then as a Maths instructor. Whilst the two aspects of my career appear different, a common factor is you have to care about the people you are dealing with whilst working to a high standard, sometimes with tight deadlines.
I am a reliable team member with a helpful and open nature and positive communication style.
2005 – 2022
I started working in school in 2005 when my daughter was 2 years old. I was initially employed as a teaching assistant. My commitment to the role led me to small group teaching. After winning a national teaching award in 2010, I became a maths instructor responsible for teaching and assessing classes of 32 students in KS3 & 4 (ages 11 – 16).
The role included planning each lesson using a variety of strategies such as creating starter activities to review the previous lesson and resources to improve on misconceptions. I ensured every lesson was focused on the students in order to embed or progress their maths mastery.
The experience I received in this career has given me knowledge of being able to manage people, think on my feet, adapt at short notice, delivering a high standard of education whilst being empathetic and compassionate to the needs of the individual learners.
1988 – 2003
My first role as a school leaver was a dental nurse for an orthodontic dentist. This gave me my first experience in customer service and carrying out administrative tasks. When the dentist retired I joined two recruitment agencies and spent the next five years working as an office temp.
These placements gave me greater exposure to different types of management style and clients whilst giving me the opportunity to broaden and develop my skills base. The roles included reception/switchboard operator, administrative roles, customer service & telephone sales. During this time I worked for some of the major companies (at the time) in Colchester.
Including, British Telecom, Anglian Water and Philips.
