I have worked within a number of different industries developing a range of skills that have been transferable within my occupations to date.
Some of my previous employments have included Waitressing, Shop Assistant / cashier, Nursing, Carer Work, Receptionist, Teaching Assistant, Special Educational Needs Officer and to today as a Hotel Receptionist / Host.
From the above I have developed many skills, including; great customer service skills, resilience, lone working, team working, peer supporter, working off my own initiative, working to deadlines, prioritising work load, working under great pressure, Managing a large caseload, ensuring people are listened to, dealing with complaints and delivering company visions and goals.
In 2023, just after relocating to Derbyshire, I completed a Hotel Reception Training course online via Global Edulink. While working as a receptionist I have completed various e-learning training / assessments which supports my role.
My role includes checking guests in and out of the hotel. Taking hotel and restaurant bookings via phone, email and in person. processing payments for bookings for the hotel and the restaurant. Greeting guests to both the hotel and restaurant and ensuring their visit is an enjoyable one and they have everything they require.
I seat guests at their table in the restaurant. providing them with information about the menu. I also carry out room checks once the housekeeping team have completed the cleaning of the rooms. As part of my role within the hotel I am a team member and if anything needs doing and I am available I lend a hand, this might include taking food orders in the restaurant, running food from the kitchen to the table, clearing tables and resetting them.
It is also important for me to be aware what is happening within the hotel on the day and that all other staff are aware and keeping the reception area tidy.
Working within a role where customer service is needed at a high level is important to me as it provides me with great job satisfaction and motivation.
