Honours Research Project - Adam Dobson Laboratory, University of Glasgow

Investigated the effects of the microbiome-derived metabolite TMAB on metabolism, reproduction and healthy ageing in Drosophila melanogaster.

• Designed and independently executed a complete honours research project from experimental planning through data interpretation.
• Managed approximately 1,800 Drosophila across longitudinal experimental cohorts.
• Performed fertility, oviposition, starvation resistance and lipid metabolism assays to investigate physiological responses.
• Conducted immunofluorescence staining, PH3 proliferation analysis, fluorescence microscopy, midgut dissections and quantitative image analysis.
• Applied ANOVA, Tukey HSD, Kruskal–Wallis and Wilcoxon statistical analyses using R.
• Produced publication-quality scientific figures and data visualisations using ggplot2.
• Demonstrated that TMAB significantly altered reproductive behaviour while producing no measurable effects on lipid storage, starvation resistance or intestinal stem cell proliferation.
• Authored a scientific dissertation awarded an A4.
