I have been a qualified social worker and a supervising social worker at a foster agency for over two years. I am dedicated and passionate about improving the lives of children and young people, and I consistently strive to go above and beyond in my efforts. After also completing a 6 month placement on the duty and assessment team I am not afraid to advocate for those I support and challenge other professionals when necessary.
I often receive praise for going the extra mile for foster carers, children, and young people, which is something I take great pride in. I prioritise organisation and ensure that I stay current with administrative tasks while meticulously documenting everything to support families effectively and keep myself safe. The children and families are at the heart of everything I do and I would not want to be in any other job role.
Supervising Social Worker - Olive Branch Foster Agency
(2023-12)
I have been a qualified social worker since August 2023 and have worked as a supervising social worker since December 2023. Duties include completing assessments and annual reviews, supervising foster carers and the wellbeing of the children and young people. I have conducted 1-2-1 meetings with the foster children to monitor how the placement is going and put any necessary support in place.
I attend regular meetings with schools, social workers, and families. I have created risk assessments and safety plans for each child along with case noting all events. I was also part of the out-of-hour service where I gained experience of how to handle missing children and many conflicting situations between foster carers, children and young people.
I have also supported carers through the standards of care process.
University placement - Duty and assessment team - Local Authority in Greater Manchester - Greater Manchester
100 days placement. I gained experience being the initial contact and triaging referrals (section 17/47). I completed assessments and care plans. I was involved in safeguarding and protection and liaising with different professionals such as the police, health, education, and other agencies.
During my time on this placement, I gained experience on other teams such as the complex safeguarding team where I worked closely with a young person who was being groomed. Eventually I managed to get the help and support in place for her before leaving my placement - which I was proud to have achieved. I also obtained knowledge from experiencing time on the MASH team where I observed a range of different initial referrals coming in.
I also joined the LAC and leaving care teams for a short period to gain experience there too.
University placement - Charity supporting adults with learning disabilities
70 days placement. I supported with activities in the day centre, advocated for several service users and hosted a weekly women's wellbeing group.
Support Worker - Calderdale Home Care
(2017-01 - 2020-08)
I worked as a support worker for adults living independently. In this role I supported service users who struggled with substance misuse, had dementia, mental health illnesses, elderly and disabled. I administered medication, helped to promote independence, and was generally supporting with day-to-day tasks for the service users to live independently.
