Driver/Porter - Care Move Removals - Birmingham, UK
My longest driving employment was for a removal company as a driver/porter. My responsibilities were driving/vehicle checks, communication with customers, loading and unloading the vehicle. Many times, it involved having to load fragile goods securely and use cautious driving to ensure that nothing was broken during transit.
Heavy goods were moved daily and often needed good communication with team members to remove safely and effectively. The role taught me a great deal of cautious driving in order to keep loads safe in transit. Additionally, many shifts involve travelling long distances to unfamiliar areas which required good initiative and intuition to maximize efficiency.
Class 2 HGV Delivery Driver - Multiple delivery companies - UK
I have had experience as a Class 2 HGV delivery driver for multiple companies, with long hours and use of tachograph cards. One of which was delivering drink supplies to pubs. This involved moving large, heavy beer kegs and dozens of cases per drop.
From these, I gained experience driving in a variety of environments, from motorways to tight urban areas. This has helped hone my knowledge of HGV driving and given me the knowledge of how to be safe on the roads and know regulations. Sometimes our days would have a second driver with me, and I would have to manage both of our tachographs, others I would drive by myself and have to manage the vehicle and tachograph on my own, which I am confident in doing.
Driving on the roads, from dry to snow conditions, has taught me how to handle heavy vehicles safely and be a safe, confident driver. HGV driving also enlightened me to the dangers that such large vehicles can pose if mishandled. I always ensure that I adhere to road regulations and keep close control of the vehicle to keep myself and other road users safe.
Healthcare Assistant - NHS Hospital - Birmingham, UK
I formerly worked as a Healthcare Assistant in a hospital, a job that taught me numerous practical skills that I believe would transfer very well into this role. The environment was often high pressure and required appropriate time keeping, decision making, teamwork and endurance. Shifts lasted 11.5 hours and most of the time would be spent on my feet, which has helped keep me fit and got me used to long spans of time physical work while adapting to a variety of roles.
Night shifts were also common, and I have great experience working through the night and the toll that it takes. This experience allows me to understand how to adapt to various shift patterns and the preparation needed for this role. Working in the NHS also exposed me to a diverse workforce and the benefits of such an inclusive team.
I believe that such a workforce helps to create and reinforce a united team who work efficiently and understand one another and uphold a positive work environment.
