A qualified EAP/ESL/EFL teacher with over 15 years of experience.
I am a qualified an EFL/ESL, ESOL, and Bahasa Indonesia teacher in London, UK. I have been tutoring (teaching as well as lecturing) since 2001, and have had the opportunity to teach in the U.K., Indonesia, Spain, and the U.S. My most current employment as a teacher is with Kaplan International, London.
Prior to this role, I was an EAP Tutor with King's College London for the summer terms of 2020 and 2021. I graduated with a B.A. in Professional Communication from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, and with an MA in Education Policy from the Institute of Education (UCL) in London. My dissertation, which is currently under peer review for publication, centred on the benefits and challenges of online learning on a massive scale.
I started off as an English tutor in Indonesia, in 2001, moving on to teaching English in an International school, and from 2007-2012 I was a lecturer for English for Tourism, Business Communication, and Academic Writing modules in a private university. I have been tutoring Business English, study preparation (TOEFL and IELTS), and General English. Prior to teaching, I was working as a journalist for a number of years.
Having an experience in journalism has honed my writing skills, and I am currently also working as a freelance copywriter. I have over 100 hours of observed teaching in the span of 15 years. My teaching style is very much learner-centred, making sure that I understand learners' motivations and passions.
Coming from a background where I myself needed to learn English as a foreign language, I can relate to my students. Iam very approachable and tolerant. I make sure topics are understood and not mechanised.
I personally think lessons should be engaging enough as to motivate learners to want to know more and learn more.
