I'm a highly creative individual with a desire to continually innovate and generate novel ideas. I've had significant design-related & creative experience both in my business venture and during my masters degree in Mechanical Design Engineering. I have a strong understanding of the end-to-end processes to create various products, components, or projects.
Customs Glasgow, May 2020 - Present In May 2020 I graduated from university in the middle of a global lockdown. Unable to find work in an incredibly unforgiving working climate at the time, I decided to try and pursue alternative income streams that may allow me to work from my home and perhaps explore my creative talents further. From this I created my own custom design apparel company Customs Glasgow, mainly focussing on footwear customisation. Using my base knowledge acquired through my education, I learned to code and design my website and social media pages, quickly finding surprising success with orders the same day I opened my website to the public.
Glasgow, while always accepting bespoke requests, ran with regular “drops” targeted to the audiences wants and needs at that given time. To develop interest in these I produced original branding through themed product photography and videography backdrop generation utilising Photoshop, Illustrator and Premier Pro. I also used Adobe Photoshop to create mock up designs for any customer looking for a bespoke creation allowing them to have a clear picture of how the product would look once finished. Being the sole employee of my business meant I was fully responsible for any customer queries, service requirements and needs. To facilitate this, I added a chat feature to my website allowing customers to speak to myself directly to resolve any issue. Through constant communication with customers with regards to their specifications and an eye for turning wants into end product, I have managed to maintain a full 5-star review rating from all sales. In the short time that my Customs Glasgow has been active I have been honoured with several accolades. I was awarded ‘Scottish Shoe Retailer of the Year’ by the Scottish Prestige Awards in 2021, have been mentioned in numerous newspapers including Glasgow Live, Daily Record, The Scotsman and have managed to gain high profile clients mainly through social media outreach and collaborations.
Glasgow also allowed me to develop intimate knowledge of the production side of the fashion industry. I always have to consider the materials and process required to ensure the highest quality end product for my clients, educating myself on novel materials such as reflective, holographic and light reactive vinyl.
Belcan April 2022-September 2022
I previously worked for Belcan Engineering as a CAD Design Engineer. This was in their marine design department working in tandem with BAE Systems to design submarines for naval contracts. I supported the design process from start to finish working with alternate teams to meet the client contract requirements.
I had to produce from-scratch generation of production output drawings, achieving top-tier ‘right first time’ drawing percentage within the team. Fast progression led to being selected to join a dedicated team allocated to work on a specific section of the ship, driving a previously late-running project to meet the deadline. I was honored to be chosen to work directly with the client as a development opportunity, requiring direct communication with on-ship engineers to reach a collaborative solution for design improvements.
Finally, I was required to use a multitude of collaborative software’s to manage all aspects of the project design paired with detailed spreadsheets to follow and track progress across teams.
