Site Manager - Green Collar ResourceUK - Swansea, Cardiff and Birmingham
(2024-11 - 2025-05)
I joined GCRUK as a freelance site manager. My responsibilities spanned multiple locations, including Swansea, Cardiff and Birmingham, overseeing comprehensive retrofit works focused on energy efficiency.
- Ensured all site activities complied with health and safety standards. Prepare RAMS and implement strict H&S protocols.
- Supervised subcontractors (e.g., window fitters, electricians, insulation teams) to ensure work was done correctly, safely, and on schedule. Carefully coordinated job sequencing to avoid trade clashes and downtime.
- My strong asset is that I understand retrofit compliance, and I am able to manage works in line with PAS 2030, PAS 2035, and TrustMark requirements. Oversaw cavity insulation extraction and refilling, roof extensions, and installation of PV solar panels.
- We replaced all existing windows and doors with new, energy-efficient units, each fitted with trickle vents to meet ventilation requirements and comply with current building regulations. This contributed to improved thermal performance and overall comfort as part of the retrofit package.
- Delivered high-quality finishes using 70mm to 200mm Rockwool EWI systems with acrylic render. Worked with manufacturers’ reps and QSs to ensure correct application and product performance. Cavity Walls often require extraction and replaced it with blown polystyrene beads, bonded with a specialist adhesive, ensuring thermal performance and compliance with current retrofit standards. I was also responsible for overseeing loft insulation works, ensuring that all properties met the required standard
- In addition, I oversaw the installation of mechanical ventilation systems in wet rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms, ensuring adequate airflow and full compliance with ventilation requirements.
- We also installed smoke detectors and damp detectors in every property to improve safety and support long-term monitoring of internal conditions.
- As part of the retrofit works, we installed photovoltaic (PV) solar panels to improve the energy efficiency of each property and help reduce tenants’ long-term energy costs.
- I maintained excellent relationships with tenants, ensuring smooth access, respectful site behaviour, and high customer satisfaction. No complaints were received throughout the project duration.
- As part of my job was coordinated material deliveries, subcontractor timelines, and weather-dependent activities. Ensured all tools and equipment were correctly used for each job.
- I’m a person whose strong understanding of retrofit standards, exceptional planning skills, and the ability to manage diverse teams while maintaining a positive environment on site. Thanks to my experience and strong practical knowledge of materials, sequencing, and subcontractor coordination, I was able to identify cost-effective solutions that resulted in significant savings on both materials and labour. This was recognised and appreciated by the quantity surveyors involved in the project.
