I am currently on a gap year before attending medical school. I love to talk to people and enjoy caring roles, such as my recent volunteer role in a community for adults with learning disabilities. I am practical, quick to pick up new things and hard-working. I also enjoy crafts such as crocheting and knitting, as well as spending time outside in nature.
I spent two months volunteering at Friends of Camphill India (from 26/01/2024). Here, I helped the adults with learning disabilities with various aspects of their daily routine: I assisted in getting them up, dressing, brushing teeth, going to the toilet, washing and for some, feeding at mealtimes. This was done with much sensitivity to the different abilities of the adults with learning disabilities in order to preserve their dignity and sense of independence.
I have worked as a Ward Host at the McIndoe Centre (09/10/2023 - 21/01/2024). I was responsible for recording food orders for patients and visitors and communicating them to the chefs. I also ensured that all dietary requirements were adhered to communicated to all relevant members of staff. This all required good communication skills both within the kitchen team and wider staff such as the nurses on the ward.
