- Recording detailed first accounts of incidents from victims, witnesses and perpetrators.

- Scene guard; Controlling access to scenes and keeping a detailed log of anyone entering or leaving.
- Handling of exhibits and property; recording detailed descriptions of the items and securing the exhibits for potential evidence.
- Community contact with the public, including dealing with victims and vulnerable people.
