I have worked with a variety of children and adults in both school and informal settings. My teaching experiences span Early Years and also Key Stages 1 through 4. I have built a rich teaching skill set enabling me to positively interact and teach a range of children within the mainstream school environment.
My communication and social skills are recognised by senior leaders as being strong and I interact confidently with pupils, staff and parents. I am a popular and well-liked team member who makes value added contributions towards team effort. I also thrive on assuming positions of responsibility and, within a leadership role, I am able to lead projects and see them through to fruition.
I am a quick learner and very self-motivated. Being organised and able to support others are skills that propelled me to undertake a Masters Degree in Education along a Leadership and Management trajectory.
In addition to my formal teaching role, I have a passion within the informal teaching world of grief, mental health and wellbeing. Having a positive mindset and effective skills to support oneself during times of stress, change and challenge is of utmost importance. Therefore, I regularly educate myself and better my personal skill set with regards to this topic.
I trained under the Grief Recovery Institute many years back and have since delivered both group and individual client sessions working through the Grief Recovery Method Programme. More recently, I updated my Grief Recovery Specialist status to be an Advanced Practitioner and thereby be licensed to practice remotely. As well as delivering adult programmes, I use the acquired skills to help children at school, and adults whom I encounter who are experiencing loss in various ways.
Examples of these include devising a bereavement school policy for a Secondary School and delivering three Zoom lectures during Covid to a wide range of listeners on topics related to loss and change. I have also written several articles on grief and loss, some of which have been published. I feel fortunate and blessed that my studying and training experiences have led me to become such an educator and mentor and that I am able to support others in this area of life.
As a ‘people’s person’ I am always interested in expanding my horizons and acquiring new skills. Examples of this include volunteering within the NHS in the Rheumatology department, deputising at a property office, becoming a qualified Zumba Fitness Instructor, learning the art of mindfulness, touch typing etc. I consider myself a lifelong learner; someone who learns from everyone around me and from each experience encountered.
I have professional work experience in the Educational Field, Business Domain, National Health Service and the Voluntary Charitable Sector.
