I'm a hard-working person with a creative mind I work well in a team or by myself. I am driven to improve and to learn new skills. I have a strong interest in the catering industry and have worked hard to improve my skills.

During the past year, I have been on Project Search which is an employability course that has given me the opportunity to gain more experience in working environments. On the course, I have completed a 12-week work placement as a commis chef at Thornfield and I am currently on placement at Baxter Storey as a catering assistant. I also had the opportunity to complete a placement with the NHS as a porter.

I have gained valuable skills throughout the course that I would now like to carry into paid employment.

Catering Assistant – work experience - Baxter Storey

(2026-03)

• Work in the pot wash area, cleaning, sanitising and tidying away all equipment.
• Label food and containers with dates and allergens before storage.
• Monitor front of house stock and replenish shelves and fridges.
• Maintain cleanliness in back of house, sweeping, moping and wiping down all areas.
• Support full end of day clean down and closure, complete checklist.
• Preparation of breakfast foods, haggis, black pudding, bacon and sausage.
• Worked front of house serving customers and managing portion control.
• Complete temperature checks and review of allergen sheets

Porter – work experience - Radiology BGH

(2025-12 - 2026-03)

• Ensured the scan rooms were clean and ready for patients.
• Wiped down the trollies in the morning so they were ready to be used when needed.
• Maintain high standard of hygiene by wiping down the beds and wheelchairs between patients.
• Learned how to push the beds around the hospital to get patients to the correct department.
• Required to maintain confidentiality regarding NHS Borders matters.
• Engaged with patients when transporting them around the hospital to give them a good customer service experience.
• Greeting patients as they arrive in the department.

Commis chef - work experience - Thornfield care home

(2025-08 - 2025-12)

• To make lunches and deserts for residents and visitors.
• Make sure that the food was blended for residents that had to have a liquated diet better known as pureed food.
• Improve my knife skills for example chopping vegetables like carrots, potatoes, cucumbers and onions.
• To keep to health and hygiene regulations and follow coshh guidelines when I was cooking in the kitchen.
• Use portion control to correctly plate up meals and have good food presentation.
