Hafsa Azam

I am a state registered biomedical scientist specialising in microbiology. I have seven years experience in this area and can operate, troubleshoot and maintain various equipment and analysers used for diagnostic tests. These include vitek2, Maldi-,tof, BDMax, Bactec Migit.

I am part of the quality mangement team for my current laboratory and regularly perform departmental and inter departmental audits. I review SOPs and procedures to ensure the the ISO standards are met and highlight any non conformance. The audit procedure also allows me to review practices and suggest alternative methods.

I volunteered too work for the hospitals COVID -19 testing laboratory and I value this experience. Not only was it a great satisfactio to be able to help in a time of need, I quickly grasped the molecular techniques involved using various platforms, semi automated such as VIASURE, and automated such as Genxpert. Interpreting PCR graphs enabled enhanced my ability to critically analyse and follow up anomalous results.

I am passionate about diagnostic microbiology and all it entails, from interpreting culture plates, performing cell counts and crystal analysis, to being part of a team which maintains the quality standards recommend by UKAS.

I am a professional, down too Earth person and am able to communicate effectively to people from all cultures. I am flexible, and am willing to put in extra hours to meet the demands of a busy laboratory. This makes me a valuable member the team.
