Prescription clerk/ Receptionist at Waterfront and Solent surgery (2021-02 – 2023-11)
I started at waterfront and Solent surgery as a receptionist handling calls, booking appointments and dealing with the diaries of our doctors and over the years progressed in my role to do more behind the scenes admin and later training to be a prescription clerk working closely alongside our doctors and local pharmacies to help safely prescribe medication to our patients. Along side that I would organise and write referrals to the hospital, I was the direct liaison between ourselves and the care home we looked after Westcliff Hall and I would answer emails and online queries. As well as working at the Doctors surgery Monday-Friday I worked within the covid clinic Team who administered covid vaccinations from December working Saturdays and Sundays supporting with admin and by the end of my time working the clinics I had trained up as IT support lead.
I had the absolute pleasure of really getting to know our patients over my time at the surgery allowing my to offer a personable approach to helping our more regular patients who needed that extra assistance. From booking patients appointments to the medical side of ordering a perception through the pharmacy all the way to inviting patients in to meet with me to help show them how to use the mobile app to book appointments I was able to developed my admin and personal communication skills in so may ways in the position.
Receptionist at Waterside dental practice (2020-08 – 2021-02)
After doing my nursing training here at waterside I returned as an admin only member of staff over the summer of 2020 following on from the covid-19 outbreak and due to members of staff isolating for longer I was brought back to cover until further notice. Here I worked alongside the practice manager very closely not only running reception keeping the books up together, cashing up/ banking, treatment co ordinating and the general smooth running of the practice but taking on more managerial jobs like the invoices, keeping our compliance up together (health and safety paperwork), referrals to and from other practice, dealing with complaints and handling the social media for the business, this meant Instagram Facebook, the website and keeping on top of any reviews that had been sent in. Not only do I really enjoy the admin side of receptionist work but I love the 1 on 1 you get with each individual patient/ customer because you are normally the first person they see when visiting the business and can sometimes determine the way the entire experience will unfold for them- this is why I have found its so important to take the time with each individual to make sure they have a unique experience and feel listened to and valued after they leave.
