Technical upskilling and portfolio projects at Self-directed (2025-08 – Present)
Following company closure, maintained hands-on development through public portfolio projects focused on RAG systems, data ingestion and cloud deployment.
- TrialWhisperer (GitHub): built and deployed a FastAPI application that ingests ClinicalTrials.gov protocol data, indexes trial sections in Qdrant, and returns citation-grounded answers for trial-specific questions. Live demo.
- RAGTrader (GitHub): building a research-oriented RAG and sentiment-analysis prototype that combines market and news ingestion, analytics pipelines, and explainable outputs in a cloud-deployable architecture.
Senior software developer at F-STAR Therapeutics Ltd. (2022-07 – 2025-08)
Data Sciences department - developed Python services, data platforms and scientific integrations.
- Benchling ELN integration and side services: built containerised services integrating with Benchling APIs to recalculate protein properties, annotate sequence regions, and surface change notifications directly in ELN records. The design also prepared cleaned ELN data for later retrieval or chat-style workflows before the company closed.
- Biological sequences platform: designed and implemented a system for storing and analysing biological sequences, including user-facing tooling and background workers for sequence analysis and report generation.
- Clinical study data upload platform: refactored and scaled the existing application as study volumes grew, introducing asynchronous worker-based processing and improving robustness for larger CRO data deliveries.
- Applied ML exploration for sequence optimisation: explored Bayesian optimisation foundations and evaluated MOBIUS-style ideas for biological sequence design and optimisation use cases.
Software developer at F-STAR Therapeutics Ltd. (2019-08 – 2022-07)
R&D (Protein Sciences) department - led architecture and implementation of data systems for laboratory workflows.
- Legacy laboratory database redesign: led the early architecture, schema redesign and migration tooling for replacing a fragile MS Access and MS-SQL system with a Flask and MySQL web application. Initial work began in this role and was rolled out over time as the platform matured.
- Pre-clinical study data upload application: designed and delivered the first version of a web application for ingesting CRO Excel and CSV files with validation, traceability, and a governed single source of truth for study data. The platform was later extended after promotion as data volumes increased.
- Worked closely with scientists to capture requirements and build internal tools that streamlined data handling, reporting and decision-making across laboratory workflows.
Development scientist at Bio Products Laboratory (2015-02 – 2019-08)
R&D (Bio-Analytics) department - developed analytical methods and digital transformation initiatives.
- Developed analytical methods for protein therapeutics and created tools to improve data availability and processing.
- Identified opportunities for digital transformation and implemented practical improvements.
- Delivered technical reports and presentations to stakeholders.
Research assistant at Bio Products Laboratory (2008-06 – 2015-02)
R&D department - supported protein purification process development and characterisation.
- Supported development of protein purification processes, including chromatography, tangential flow filtration and protein characterisation assays.
