About

My name is Ryan Matthews. I am 31 years old and I'm a level 3 NVQ qualified plant engineer with 13 year's experience working on plant machines. I started and completed my apprenticeship with Komatsu Mining Germany (KMG) up at Ffos – y – Fran coal opencast and over the years have had the opportunity to work on a variety of different plant machinery, rail machinery and agricultural machinery in order to further my knowledge and skills in my role.

As a Fitter within my current role, I am responsible for the routine maintenance, servicing diagnostics and repair of mobile plant machine and agricultural machinery. I cover breakdowns and emergency repairs as well as planned component replacement. I am used to working with oil sampling and acting on final results off the lab.

I always work alongside a pre task assessment and stay within the method statement guide lines. I also make sure all tooling used is in the very best of working order and is suitable for the job. If I find a defected part I always check to see if there is a service letter on the particular part.

Service letters allows me to order the new part which has been modified if there has been a cause for concern with previous machines. Working for a main dealer they give me regular updates of problem parts so I can change or adapt the troublesome part so the machine can run more efficiently and reduces the amount of down time.
