Jawad Anjum

My foremost passion is organising people for power, reviving grassroots democracy. I firmly believe this issue is at the heart of most challenges facing society today. I'm a former Engineer with 5 years Project Management experience. I've worked with national and local campaigns on issues of global and social justice on a variety of issues. My recent focus has been community organising around migrant justice and decent, affordable housing for all.

Organiser at Migrants Organise (2024-05 – Present)

• Recruiting, coaching and developing migrants and refugees to lead migrant justice campaigns. Won on repairs, service improvements etc. in asylum and non-asylum housing.
• Growing 'lived experience' groups to develop campaigns with strategy, power mapping, tactics etc.
• Facilitating and delivering organising training and workshops for Migrants Organise members as well as in partnership with other organisations. Many people speaking out publicly for the first time.
• Building partnerships and coalitions with other migrant justice and housing groups and organisations. Embedding migrant solidarity in the housing justice movement.
• Facilitating a variety of tactics: parliamentary events and inquiries, direct action around local authorities, coproducing research with academics, press/media work etc.
• Contribution to fundraising application, reporting, organisational strategy, Solidarity Knows No Borders network.

Communities Manager at London Community Land Trust (2023-08 – 2024-05)

• Support communities in London to develop new genuinely and permanently affordable community-led housing.
• Develop and implement London CLT's approach to its residents, including allocations, management, resale, and stewardship.
• Support local community steering groups throughout the various complex project stages of building homes (campaign engagement, land acquisition, planning, build and allocations), by building relationships, supporting groups and local leaders.

Community Organiser & Senior Community Organiser at High Trees Community Development Trust (2020-10 – 2023-08)

• Organising with local residents to build and grow democratic organisations for collective action
• Identifying and coaching organic leaders to lead their own communities
• Teaching and facilitating strategy and tactics to effect long-lasting change
• Training leaders in other organisations to embed community organising principles in their work

Associate at On Purpose (2019-10 – 2020-09)

The On Purpose Associate Programme is a leadership and career transition programme for mid-career professionals entering the social and environmental impact space. It includes two 6-month placements at King's College London to improve access to higher education and Ark Ventures to support two education charities.
