I work well both independently and as part of a team, having worked as a bartender for many years I have become accustomed to high intensity situations in which everyone has to fit their role perfectly to prevent the failure of the bar.
Form college I worked with others on the International Baccalaureate organising Charity fundraisers as well as developing my own independent study skills. During university I established many different organisations including a campaign group, a society at university and a community development group. I was briefly involved in a sex education group teaching secondary school students sex education awareness. I also organised music events across the city.
Community movement organiser and founder at Cooperation (2023-01 – Present)
Formed a group called Cooperation Sheffield focusing on development of the Solidarity Economy and local people's assemblies, looking to build and establish a network of stronger self-sustaining communities. I am responsible for constant strategy updates; organising and hosting people's assemblies; outreaching to different community groups and individuals and maintaining strong relationships with people all over the city so we can promote the voice of every group in Sheffield as authentically as possible. I run the email account, established the website page and facilitate and host weekly and biweekly meetings, which aims to be as comfortable and inclusive as possible to hear as many voices as possible as we work on a flat organising structure.
This requires constant education, social media running and interaction with members of communities I would otherwise not have come across. Since the movement has started to receive flows of money, I also helped research into how and incorporate a legal structure for the group making it a cooperative community benefit society.
Community organiser at Green New Deal Rising (2022-01 – 2023-12)
A friend and I established a Sheffield branch of the climate activist group Green New Deal Rising. This organising role required working with lots of other climate action groups to discover what we had in common, canvassing mass areas of Sheffield to chat and discover what mattered to local constituents and what the political landscape of the area was.
