As a health care science practitioner (Genetic Technician) with 5 years of experience working within an NHS hospital lab, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of how the role enables and aids in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. I am able to accurately and efficiently assist healthcare scientists to provide high-quality services. My administrative duties ensure samples can be accurately attributed to reported patients with discrepancies being investigated.

I have developed strong organisational abilities that enable me to compartmentalise, prioritise and structure workflows. I am capable of independently undertaking multiple assays within the lab, which is increasingly beneficial for ensuring smooth, high-quality workflows. • Making in-house reagents using established procedures
• Receipt of samples of various types along with sorting between molecular and cytogenetic samples based on information from referral document
• Alerting relevant senior members of staff to problems regarding samples such as unlabelled samples or sample with different patients details between referral documents and sample tube label
• Booking of samples onto laboratory database (STARLIMS)
