Health Care Assistant / Senior Health Care Assistant - Lyncroft Care Home - Wisbech
(2003-04 - 2016-09)
I started work at Lyncroft care home in Wisbech after leaving school and progressed from health care assistant to Senior Health Care Assistant in March 2012. During my time there I was responsible for delivering a high level of personal care and caring for residents within their final stages of life and their families. After a short while, this became solely my responsibility. Upon promotion I became responsible for reporting to senior management, relaying information to healthcare profesionals such as doctors, paramedics, nurses and other healthcare profesionals. I was responsible for reporting dietry needs to the caterers and gathering information from dieticians to ensure residents were receiving the correct supplements and diets.
I was responsible for administering medication to residents and advocating for them when required. I was trained in CPR and have had to use this on several occasions in my career. I was involved in organising entertainment and minful activities for residents.
I was also responsible for work patterns and rotas for all junior staff.
Health Care Assistant / Senior Health Care Assistant - Queen Elizabeth II Hospital - Shouldham Ward
(2016-09)
I began working at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital after leaving Lyncroft Care Home to further my carer in nursing. I began working on Shouldham Ward and have stayed there from the beginning. Shouldham is an Oncology/Haematology ward caring for people receiving chemotherapy and also those in the final stages of life.
My role here is very similar to what I have done in my previous employment which involves personal care, dietry requirements, offering lots of support and encouragement. However this role involves me getting patients that are receiving chemotherapy to eat as their sense of taste is not the same whilst receiving treatment and being there for patients and families as a support network, offering them direction as to what can happen and emptional and financial support networks that are available to them. In the last year I have completed my level 3 NVQ in a hospital setting which has qualified me as a Senior Health Care Assistant.
My job role with asisiting patients remains the same, however, I have learnt and developed more clinical skills which in turn takes the workload from nurses. I am competatnt in such procedures as venapuncture/canulation, bladder scanning, cathete
