Laura Ogilvie

I am a Hairdresser with over 18 years experience in the industry. I have never had a break in my career and always had a passion for hairdressing and all hair science. I started working in this career at the age of only fourteen years old.

I have always had a strong ethic from this time and going forward. I love learning new skills in hair and believe as a hairdresser you never stop learning. In the last 12 years I have been self employed and loved every minute of it, I now run a sucsessful salon while also doing temporary lecturing at Edinburgh college and West Lothian college in the make up and hair department, learning the students hairdressing styling and basic cutting/colour and also wig application. as well as make up skills.I am qualified with an HNC in hair and makeup alongside lots of add on courses for social media and web development.

I have always had a passion for teaching hence why I done my Hnc as well as to be extra creative I knew this was the job for me. I like to think of myself as a very patient and empathetic person andI just love the variety and diversity this job brings. If there is ever a student struggling which in lockdown has seen more than half of them develop mental health issues I really do try to get as much one to one with them as I can. and reassure everyone they will all learn and develop different skills faster than one another but will all catch up in the end.

It is so rewarding when they do and why lecturing is my dream job I love teaching all types of students and seeing them succeed in their own different ways. Another passion of mine is vegan and cruelty free haircare and colour which I am exited to see some of the colleges striving towards and introducing clinate compensated packaging. It would be my ultimate dream to educate all aspiring and passionate hairdressers into this new era of hair science and how we can make a change for the world and the hair industry.
