I recently retired from York College where I primarily taught A level late medieval and modern history. I personally planned, prepared and delivered lessons, and subsequently assessed and monitored progress. I am a hobby breeder, and successfully show pedigree Abyssinian cats.

My experience includes effectively communicating with a diverse range of individuals, maintaining order, and providing clear instructions – all of which are crucial competencies for a Court Usher.

Key highlights of my career that align with the responsibilities of a Court Usher include:

• Communication Skills: As a teacher, I have honed my ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely to students, parents, and colleagues. This skill is essential for guiding court visitors and ensuring they understand courtroom procedures.
• Organizational Skills: I have a proven track record of organizing and managing classroom activities, schedules, and materials efficiently. This experience will help in maintaining the order and protocol required in a courtroom setting.
• Interpersonal Skills: My role has required me to engage with individuals from various backgrounds, resolve conflicts, and manage behaviour in a calm and professional manner. These skills are directly transferable to managing courtroom decorum and assisting visitors.
• Attention to Detail: Preparing lesson plans and grading assignments has instilled in me a meticulous attention to detail, which is crucial for ensuring that courtroom procedures are followed precisely.

I hold an MA in Medieval Studies, BA (Honours) in History and my safeguarding certification is up to date.
