Apprentice at Allied Bakeries West Bromwich (2008-11 – 2013-01)
When I was first employed by Allied bakeries I completed an advanced modern apprenticeship while working on a day shift pattern, working alongside fully qualified electricians and mechanical engineers, this gave me a wide overview of maintenance techniques and experiences gained through working with these individuals, not only gaining knowledge of electrical engineering but also learning mechanical techniques making me multi-skilled but with a bias to Electrical Engineering, I also attended college 1 day a week on day release. As an apprentice I used to carry out simple electrical tasks such as changing lights, changing sensors/reed switches etc. whilst also allowing me to attend breakdowns with shift electricians, this enabled me to start learning how to deal with breakdowns, how to attend them and the procedures needed to be a maintenance engineer. As an apprentice I spent time with mechanical engineers, attending mechanical issues where I was taught how to identify and rectify issues such as failed bearings, changing shafts and changing conveyor belts etc.
My last year was spent on a single shift pattern working 4 on 4 off again assisting the shift with breakdowns and carrying out PPM's on the bakery equipment.
