Currently working as a Band 5 Staff Nurse in Badenoch and Strathspey Community Hospital. I have worked with NHS since 1999. I started as an Auxiliary Nurse and went on to do my full nurse training in 2005, qualifying in 2008 to a Staff Nurse.

We moved from Ian Charles Community Hospital following its closure to here at Badenoch and Strathspey Community Hospital. Now we manage a slightly bigger bedded hospital consisting of 20 beds and also are nursing some younger patients and providing some day case care for blood transfusions and intravenous therapies. I continue to work within job description outlined under Ian Charles Community Hospital. We work using a lot of electronic/ technology for record keeping, care planning etc as well as usual written documentation.

Nursing from admission to discharge facilitating rehabilitation, medicine administration, palliative, medical interventions etc. Communicating and liaising with patients, their families, caregivers and a diverse range of multi disciplines . Delegating duties and running shifts , administering intravenous medicines, phlebotomy, wound care to name but a few.

Staff Nurse on a 30 bedded very busy Acute Medicine for the elderly ward at Raigmore Hospital, providing nursing care to a wide variety of patients requiring medical, rehabilitate and palliative patient centred holistic care and treatment.
Assisting patients with activities of daily living, delivering medical interventions, drugs orally and intrevienous , phlebotomy, recording vital sign observations, catheterisation, wound care, note taking and documentation written and electronically liaising with multi disciplines , patients and their families alike. As well as delegation, prioritisation, desculating violent and aggressive patients, falls prevention, maintaining strict confidentialites, taking charge on occasion when required and working in strict concordance within NMC guidelines and my registration.

I worked where the NHS in Highland had staff shortages doing relief bank work . Usually on wards within Raigmore mainly 2c Acute medicine for the elderly doing a night shift a week. Carried out a wide range of duties from managing a 30 bedded unit with cohorted rooms for falls , rehabilitation,violence and aggression, to terminal end of life care . Using a wide range of skills such as wound care, skin rounding, phlebotomy, IV medicines, blood transfusion, drug administration, electronic and written documentation to name but a few. Delegation, team working, communications with patients, multidisciplinary team, carers and families alike.
