I am a General Nurse with 20 years of experience and 16 years presently in Diabetes management.

I start working as an Adult Nurse in Acute Medicine and Rose to the rank of Junior ward sister. Four years later I moved into Diabetes Specialist Nurse where I have worked till date making 16 years.

I have worked as a Diabetes nurse in most of the hospitals of excellent in London and Essex, including the private hospital and also worked in the Island of Jersey.

My diabetes skill are very varied. I educate patients , adults and other health care professional. I assess,plan, implement and evaluate the care of Diabetes patients. This involve review blood tests, ordering further bloods, physical examination of feet, injection sites,checking retinal test and adjustment of diabetes medication or introduction of new therapies. Patients are educated on how the therapy works, doses, how to inject in case of Insulins, side effects, reporting, and followup plan.

I am specialised in Diabetes Nursing. My skills are assesing, planning, implementing and evaluating Diabetes patient care within Inpatients or community care setting.

Within my role and with usage of the Nursing process above I establish good communication with the patient, inteprete current blood tests, ordering further bloods, discuss the current medication regime and explore suitability, titrate the medication or I trounce new Therapy, can be insulin or oral diabetes agents.

Patient is educated on any new Agents: doses, how they work, timing, side effects reporting and follow-up. Incase of Introduction of insulin patients will be educated on administration techniques and safety use of Insulin..

Education of patients, relatives, teams and health care professionals is a key aspect of my role as a Diabetes Nurse Specialist.
