I meet all the essential requirements for the role. For example, I have excellent soft skills, being very approachable and being able to listen, empathize, and support children with various needs. I am familiar with the policies and procedures required for working with Special Education Needs and Disabilities, including health and safety protocols such as First Aid.
I have experience of managing 1-2-1 situations with children and parents while also being able to work in groups, and I am excellent in tracking and recording challenging behaviour and generating reports that suit the needs of the school and the children.
In addition to my current role, I have had previous experience in a similar role as a Care and Educationist working with disabled children and young adults. During my time here, I learnt to develop relationship and communication with the children and their families, as well as assisting the teaching staff in creating personalized learning plans. I also developed my understanding of various challenges, both social and physical in nature, that special educational needs and disabilities bring.
Voluntary work has also been of great importance to me as it provided me with the opportunities to gain more experience in the area of SEND. As part of my volunteering, I assisted in organizing educational and social activities for children and their families. This not only made me aware on how to support such children, but I also learnt how to handle complex situations and maintain a professional attitude.
