Experienced data leader in creating data functions, increasing maturity & creating value.
Chaucer, UK (April 2022 – Jan 2025)Responsible for all Data and Analytics functions in Chaucer Group. Including reporting to C-level and board, strategy, vision & implementation, business cases, liaising with internal and external stakeholders budget, resourcing, functional improvements and eco-system development.
Implemented an ambitious program of transformation for Data and Analytics which included the acquisition and implementation of a Cloud Data Lake, Data Quality technology, Data Catalog, Data Pipeline technology, Cloud Analytics as well as governance and security maturity.
In 2023 the adoption of Data quality technology and implementation of rules reduced the amount of aged debt by USD 18.1M which decreased our capital charge by USD 10.7M. This released funds for treasury to invest to increase profitability. The implementation of a GDPR programme created a legally defensible position avoiding a potential fine up to £10 million or 2% of global turnover.
This programme increased the governance around sensitive data and appraised the business of the importance of the regulation and the protection of sensitive data.
In 2024 the creation of a Cloud Data Lake underpinned a new product being launched by Chaucer with a revenue target of 14M and COR of 72.5%. The data lake is supporting a drive in our US Delegated Property portfolio to become more efficient, automated and streamlined. Working with underwriting and pricing we enhanced the pricing algorithms with additional data feeds.
Increasing pricing accuracy and reducing our loos ratio by 0.5% in syndicate 1084 which reached a record profit – USD 10M being achieved with the aid of this initiative.
Alongside the advances in Data eco-system and technology I was responsible for the creation of a Data Culture Programme which encompasses Data Fluency content to support the Chaucer Business Goal of becoming truly Data Driven. As a result of the Data Team’s hard work and achievements we were awarded the “Data, Analytics & AI, Team of the Year 2024” by the London Market Forum.
