• SCIENTIFIC WRITING – Researched the literature and critically evaluated papers to support scientific reports, including a 1,500 word report on PCR, restriction enzymes to show how DNA sequencing can be applied forensically to identify and characterise pieces of DNA Polymerase and a 1,300-word report explaining The Importance of Oxaloacetate in Metabolism.
• LABORATORY – Positive experience and understanding of assay tests, microscopy, spectrometry, mass spectrometry, aseptic technique, maintaining pure cultures, gram staining, RNA extraction, PCR preparation and ELISA. Applied techniques to practical problems such as agar sterilization to limit the contamination of samples.
• RELEVANT MODULES – Applied Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics, Exploring Genetics, Cell and Cancer Biology, Study and Communication Skills, Research Methods, Metabolism, Practical Skills for Biologists.
