Olaremi Aminu

Newly qualified BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapist from the University of Huddersfield with clinical experience across community mental health, hand therapy, acute hospital care, trauma and orthopaedics, rehabilitation and occupational health settings. I have developed strong skills in person-centred assessment, occupationally focused intervention, therapeutic communication, clinical reasoning, multidisciplinary working, clinical documentation and promoting independence. I have experience within community mental health, and various clinical settings.

I have worked alongside a multidisciplinary and multi-agency team, developed therapeutic relationships with service users and contributed to occupational therapy assessment and intervention. My previous experience in health and social care has also involved supporting individuals with complex and additional needs, adapting communication approaches, responding to behaviours that challenged and promoting community participation, independence and wellbeing. I am passionate about the role of occupational therapy in supporting recovery, meaningful occupation, social inclusion and quality of life.

I am particularly interested in developing my career within community mental health and Assertive Outreach, using occupation-focused approaches to support individuals with complex and enduring mental health difficulties. I recognise the importance of collaborative working, reflective practice, professional boundaries and balancing positive risk-taking with service-user safety.

Completed an eight-week specialist hand therapy placement as part of my BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy degree.

Initially attended Harrogate Hospital as an Occupational Therapy student through York St John University and successfully completed a six-week placement with the Trauma and Orthopaedic Team on Nidderdale Ward. Following the placement, I was offered employment as a Rehabilitation Assistant.
