Patrick McCloskey

I am an accomplished professional with a strong academic background, having achieved a 1st class degree in Accounting & Finance in 2015. During my studies, I gained practical experience through a placement in finance at the NHS, which fueled my desire to continue working in the Public Sector.

To pursue this, I embarked on a career in external audit, where I excelled in leading and managing the end-to-end delivery of public sector audits. During this time, I qualified as a chartered private and public sector accountant, further enhancing my knowledge in financial management, audit, risk, assurance, governance, tax and reporting.

In my most recent role at Merseyrail, I held a leadership position within the audit and assurance function. I was accountable for developing the internal audit plan and reported directly to senior management and the Audit Committee. Additionally, I provided valuable advisory support to the business in establishing a new risk management process, showcasing my ability to contribute to strategic initiatives.

I take great pride in my coaching and mentoring skills, which have been further refined through my completion of the Dale Carnegie leadership programme. This has equipped me with the tools and knowledge to effectively guide and develop others to reach their full potential, ensuring they have all the tools and resources they require to contribute to a successful team, striving for perfection.

Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with senior stakeholders at all levels within organisations. This has allowed me to cultivate strong interpersonal skills, as well as refine my report-writing, presenting, and communication abilities. I am known for my meticulous attention to detail, commitment to delivering high-quality work, and the ability to thrive under pressure and tight deadlines. Whether working independently or as part of a large team, I consistently demonstrate self-motivation and the ability to execute tasks with minimal oversight.
