My current role involves animal care, customer interaction and education. Within pets at home I have the responsibility to care for the small animals and fish we sell. My role is to clean out these animals in the morning with efficiency and care.
As well as caring for the animals within the shop I also have the responsibility to educate the public on animal welfare and protection. A big part of my role at pets at home is to host Pet Pals sessions these are 45 minute sessions in which children are taught the importance of looking after wildlife as well as household pets. Each session also involves handling the small animals as well.
During this role I have grown confidence in presenting to younger audiences as well as adapting my teaching methods during the sessions in order to present the information in a palatable way for the audience. Within this role I also have to perform a cashier role in which I have further increased my skills in cash handling, customer service and effective communication.

Waitress and Bar Staff - The Zen Restaurant In my previous jobs working for the Zen restaurant I performed duties such as waiting on tables, stock management, cleaning and bar work. During this experience I was required to work with a team of employees in a fast paced environment this has allowed me to improve my skills further and be able to work well under pressure. I was required to greet customers at the door and show them to their tables.
I also served food and cleaned the tables after customers finished. I was responsible for taking payment both in cash and card. I also worked behind the bar making drinks and was responsible for restocking the drinks.
Within this role I learnt to work with a team of people to create an organised and effective work environment. This included clear and concise communication especially through busy nights. During this role I also developed my confidence in talking and customer service.
I had many moments where I had to deescalate tense situations where a customer as angry and aggressive. I also built my resilience to mistakes and insults. I learnt to control the emotions that came from these situations and ensured I was able to continue my work.
Store Assistant - Dunelm Gloucester - Gloucester
Within this role I greeted people at the door, stocked shelves throughout opening hours and after, assisted customers and my main role was at the register. I had the responsibility of ensuring customers had the best experience. I was also responsible for checking identification for age restricted items and protecting the personal data of customers and other staff members.
This job furthered my customer service skills as I often had to navigate conversations as well as scanning through items. I also had to learn the layout of the store and items of stock. I learnt to quickly adapt to new layouts and find items using the environment around me when asked for an item I wasn't familiar with.
