- Assisted vet nurses in preparing animals for surgery and monitoring their health post surgery, reporting any observations
- Maintained a clean environment of exam rooms, theatres, prep rooms and kennels
- Attended surgeries for various treatments, supporting the vet nurses

- Assisted vet nurses and vets by restraining animals for examinations and treatment
- Cleaning surgical equipment and preparing it for sterilisation
- Disinfecting kennels and equipment
- Ensured that patients were comfortable e.g. feeding/water and taking patients out for walks for toilet and exercise
- Cleaned operating theatres after surgery
- Assisted vet nurses with preparing equipment for surgery such as multi-parameters and ensuring it is functioning correctly
- Assisted in running laboratory tests for bloodwork and urine samples
Volunteer keeper - Northumberland County Zoo

- Experience in taking care of a diverse selection of animals e.g. reptiles, invertebrates, aquatic species and mammals including endangered species such as Livingstone fruit bats
- Learnt specific species diets relating to their individual nutritional requirements
- Designed and carried out an animal behaviour research project around the introduction of hormonal contraceptive implants to a troop of ring tailed lemurs to study the effects on aggression within the group
- Monitored and maintained environments to reflect natural habitats such as temperature and humidity in warm climate species
- Maintained animals enclosures
- Built structures and apparatus within enclosures for enrichment and shelter
- Prepared enrichment items for various animals including hay balls and puzzle feeders
