Currently an apprentice doing a level 3 personal trainer course, having recently passed my level 2 gym instructor course. My aim is to get as much experience as possible in teaching classes, as I progress, and complete my level 3.
I have worked in a gym called Supersonic Fitness for a year, after starting there on work placement through my master's at university, 4 months in they offered me a permanent role, followed by an apprenticeship opportunity with Active IQ to do a level 2 gym instructor, and level 3 personal trainer course. In this gym I have gained experience in creating and giving program inductions, consultations, creating and delivering sessions to members, as well as performing reception duties and cleaning checks. One of the main things I have enjoyed about the gym environment is building rapport with the members, as it has brought me out of my shell in the work environment, and overall it made work very enjoyable.
Getting involved in the gym environment started out from coaching in amateur boxing, having completed my level 1 boxing coach course in 2016, I then took up a level 2, and level 3 sports leadership award, as well as an extended diploma in sport, in college. After this I went on to complete a 4 year master's course in physical education and sports coaching at York St John University, leading me towards working in a gym.
