Samuel Hickson

I combine detailed hand drawings with digital colour to create unique and striking images. I have received illustration commissions from various national magazines. In addition, my anthology comic book Liquid Realm has been a small-press success worldwide. I have also edited and contributed to the Underground Kingdom Comix Presents series and had work printed in Canadian and UK comic book anthologies.

Freelance illustration commissions require great discipline in order to be completed at publishable standards under tight deadlines. National magazines including The Big Issue, Mojo and Little White Lies have employed my services.

As a student, I studied various image-making practices such as screen printing, letterpress and etching. I was selected as a Best of Year Winner at the D&AD Student Awards (2012) based on the strength of my work. A commemorative plaque permanently displays one of my illustrations at The University of Plymouth. My illustration for the Annual International Reggae Poster Competition (2014) was selected as a top forty entry and exhibited as part of a worldwide show.

I have turned my attention to cartooning in recent years. My comic book Liquid Realm is a small press success, sold in comic book stores worldwide. This year has seen my work published in three comic book anthologies.
