To pursue my dream, I chose business and economics in my A levels. I enjoyed every element of economics and business, especially reading case studies and learning about companies like Nike and how they launched a hijab intended specifically for Muslim female athletes. I developed a keen interest in studying business and economics, which enabled me to understand the finance and profitability aspects of businesses as well as economic concepts of unemployment and ways to counter it by using monetary and fiscal policy.
Along with learning the key skills to run a business, I also learnt about the concepts of risk and reward for making better financial investment decisions. Now when I have my results and University doesn't seem quite an option for me. I want to step out in real world and start my career.
To gain business experience in the industry, I applied for the EY Smart Futures programme and was one of the 15 people selected across the UK. I networked with the Strategy and Transactions team and was able to work directly with them on a project which enabled me to better understand the intricacies of the retail sector. I worked on a project extract for a health firm looking to launch a healthy energy drink into the market.
I analysed the company's new brand concept and devised a marketing campaign to promote it, while assessing the product market fit. This enabled the firm to differentiate itself from its competitors, and target a new market. I got the opportunity to analyse businesses as well as present in front of senior leaders, enabling me to refine my hard and soft skills.
