I am a plant Biology post grad with a background in electrical systems installation and maintenance. I have a keen interest in all things growing and have worked in the plant research industry for the last two years at NIAB. My primary interest is in controlled environment agriculture and plant phisiology.
Installation and maintenance of automated irrigation systems and preparation and adjustment of fertigation to the improve water and nutrient use-efficiency of crops.
Observation and maintenance of plant health and husbandry within a range of controlled environment agricultural systems (closed growth chambers and glasshouse) and polytunnels. Focused primarily upon soft fruits (strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blackcurrants) and stone fruits (plums, cherries) and vineyard grapes.
Supervising multiple projects/experiments in parallel, organising and prioritizing work schedules and ensuring timely completion of milestones while upholding high quality data gathering for research.
Taking measurements and accurately gathering and entering data and making adjustments to growth systems based on data in order to improve growth conditions and provide consistent and reliable results for scientific research.
Working in Laboratory conditions running assays and preparation and application of chemical fertilizers for fertigation treatments.
Assessment of produce for food quality, yield and nutritional content.
