Dear Recruiting Manager,
This email is to express my interest in your posting for a Scrum Master to support new agile development teams. With my recent attainment of my Professional Scrum Master certification and my previous experience, I believe I have the correct transferable skills and aptitude to succeed in this role at your organization.
I have proven to be a strong leader whether it is leading sales teams to achieve targets or supporting a team of volunteers in delivering community projects such as homeless feeding, workshops in prisons and running a local foodbank. One of the ways I have supported these teams and to get their respect is by understanding their needs and getting involved on the ground with the work.
I have strong communication and presentation skills as well as the ability to create good bond within a team, which is a key skill I have learnt when motivating volunteer teams. Ib completed an apprentice facilitator course in 2015 which gave me the foundation to lead conversations that will support the teams I was involved in. I arranged and delivered training workshops which engaged the thinking of the participants in ways that contributed to the successful delivery of their projects.
Before completing the Professional Scrum Master certificate, I have led on the planning, delivery, and reflection of projects. The training helped me understand that I was already implementing parts of the sprint events like the sprint planning and sprint reviews without the relevant time boxes as well as creating a transparent work culture. With this training, I have no issue with supporting a team with the implementation of the full scrum framework including the artifacts such as the sprint and product backlog and ensuring the team meets the agreed definition of done.
I am also very familiar with the Agile Manifesto and the 12 principles behind it.
As with most teams, there will be conflict that requires resolving and mediating. When this occurs, I encourage conversation between the parties, addressing the issues and reminding them of their ‘why’ regarding their involvement of the project. I have also displayed problem solving skills in my previous organisations I have worked for.
I recommended to my manager at Brent Council that we have shorter daily meetings to discuss our plan for the day rather than a long weekly meeting discussing the week. This improved our productivity as we were able to support each other with any challenges that came up during the week and less time was spent in meetings.
I am a self-starter who is continuously looking for ways to improve. As well as completing the scrum course, I have taught myself project management tools such as Asana, Trello and Jira. I have joined various professional organizations and continuously look for methods to improve the Scrum process.
I am an avid believer in self-development, and I encourage teams I work with to continuously find ways to improve themselves whether it is individually or as a collective. This encourages them to feel empowered to self-manage themselves.
I've attached a copy of my CV that details my experience. I can be reached anytime via my mobile phone, 07949 137 514, or via email. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to speaking with you about this employment opportunity.
