My name is Sophie and I am currently a student, studying Animal Management (Level 3 Diploma & Extended Diploma) at Central Bedfordshire College In Dunstable. I have a key interest in the welfare of animals and am eager to pursue a career in veterinary science. I have grown up in an environment surrounded by animals, so much so that my family and I now have 2 cats, with 2 more soon on the way, a rabbit as well as a number of fish.
Whilst I am on the road to gaining the qualifications I require, I am working at Asda, gaining crucial work experience and developing my skills. However, this is simply a stepping stone and thus I am eager to broaden my skill set and gain essential work experience in the animal world.
Since July 2021, I have been employed as a store assistant at Asda in Dunstable. By working in a retail establishment I have gained experience and essential skills that will be vital in future careers. This incudes working in customer service and ensuring that I use communication skills to provide a professional response to a customer's needs.
My current job has also allowed me to experience working as part of a large team as well as working individually. This involves competent organizational skills and time management to ensure certain deadlines are met.
I have also been responsible for staff training and helping new store colleagues settle into their roles. I believe it is important to be a good listener and demonstrate empathy towards both customers and colleagues. Developing a positive relationship with my colleagues has helped me grow in confidence and supported me in developing my interpersonal skills.
