Throughout the past couple years I have taken part in several team building activities that have built upon my Team-oriented personality. For example, my involvement in my college and university underwater hockey team has not only enhanced my ability to adapt to pressuring situations as I am continuously making split decisions, but I also have to work as a team, ensuring my team receive the puck with the limitation of holding my breath. Involvement in this Water sport inspired my progression into lifeguarding on both poolside and the beach, a role encompassing strong interpersonal skills with the general public.
A passion for emergency care was then sparked, as I've recently began my study of paramedic science at Oxford Brookes university. I would count myself as a diligent individual, my determination to work my utmost with the goal of achieving the best continuously encourages me further. Despite this, if I make a mistake, I will learn why, so that fault will not happen again, and when I can do something to help, I will never leave someone to struggle alone, whether that be by something as simple as pointing out another colleague in the right direction or recognising a potential danger, taking the initiative to prevent a situation from worsening.
Beach Lifeguard at RNLI (Present)
Seasonal role as an RNLI beach lifeguard, in which rescuing and treating injuries in the ocean environment can become dangerous and require subsequent swift action to ensure safety of both myself, colleagues and the patient. A subsequent debrief ensures everyone involved in the incident communicates feelings, gaps in knowledge and highlights any opportunities for the team to improve.
Healthcare Assistant within A&E at NHS (Present)
My knowledge gained from being in the RNLI has helped me in my position as an NHS healthcare assistant within A&E. Dealing with patients on a larger scale in a clinical environment has built upon my communication skills as I am constantly assisting with patient handovers, completing essential observations and voicing any concerns I may have for the patients, at times resulting in life critical alterations in care. Treating individuals with severe injuries or medical conditions have taught me the significance of patient comfortability and care, without delay prioritising their needs and satisfaction as of utmost importance.
NCO (FSgt) Air Cadets at RAFAC
My confidence has grown from my role within the air cadets as an NCO (FSgt), and talking to large crowds with a personal assurance of my own ability to deliver briefings has led me to have confidence in myself in every aspect of my life. During my time in RAFAC, I have been given the opportunity to attend a 7 day first aid instructor course, provided to allow me to run my own first aid classes and build upon my casualty care knowledge. Furthermore, I have also taken part in several swimming competitions, and after achieving second place in two swimming races in the inter wing swimming competition, I was chosen to attend the IR Swimming Competition at RAFC Cranwell, a challenging, very competitive event, that demanded a high-quality level of swimming skill.
To counter the pressure of the competition, I started training weekly. This prepared me for the following competition ahead of time, and has taught me the importance of preparation.
