I am an extremely self-motivated individual, setting myself goals and being fully aware of what is needed to achieve them. My GCSEs subjects were selected to support my A Levels choices which would in turn support entrance to further/higher education focusing on a career in engineering product design and development.
During the course of my seven years at Penistone Grammar, my overall attendance was above 97% as was my attendance at Bishop Burton University. During my year studying sports science I was awarded a student of the year award for my course. All home learning and independent learning was always completed to the deadlines given and the preparation for my exams was thorough and in line with my own revision schedule.
From the challenges I have set myself, have already achieved a number of awards outside of school. I like to be busy and active and have a keen interest in product development and engineering.
During the year following sixth form (2020-21), I completed a Higher National Certificate in Sports Science. Although still in education, I loosely refer to this my ‘year out’.
My goal is to work for a company which offers support and opportunities to develop my knowledge and skills and progress within the company. I am not just looking for a job, I am looking for a company where I can start and develop my career.
Since August 2021, I have been employed in a degree apprenticeship role at Equi-Trek and Moto-Trek Group as an apprentice design engineer. My main roles include: supporting the production line and the design of new components/products utilising different forms and rapid prototyping and CAD software packages. During my time at Equi-Trek I have learned to utilise our ERP system (Openda).
In this role I work on products from initial design through to prototyping and production. I work full time with day release to study for my degree.
As part of the role I am expected to research and develop ideas for existing and new products, technologies, components, processes, and the systems used to make them. I also work to improve the performance and efficiency of existing products and provide support to the new business and vehicle-launch team. This includes ensuring that all aspects of CAD design are created to fully meet the high specifications set.
The role also involves designing systems, processes, methodologies as well as component and vehicle designs to enhance the overall vehicle performance for the customer and environment. Transforming concepts into prototypes for testing, validating and improvement; ultimately for volume production. This includes designing to meet costs, timing, and quality requirements.
For smaller projects I have been responsible for ensuring the success of the design from inception through to delivery into manufacture, using innovative engineering skills to ensure seamless integration. The role is a very practical position, demanding high levels of creativity and flexibility. I work under general supervision and have reviews at project milestones and on completion.
